This is a compendium of all my Races and Afflictions all in one place. It's cleaner this way.
Basilisk
Affliction Rarity: Ultra-Rare
If your feeling lucky, DM JTS03 and we will see if your blood is suitable.
Background
This Vampiric mutation is relatively new, now suddenly appearing through some of the eldest Vampires and very rarely newborn Vampires. Not much is known about why this is happening in the vampiric society, leaving most confused or in awe. Although these vampires seem to have evolved an oddly more powerful strain as a result of a mutation in their blood that gives them more power than your typical Vampire. This new group of vampires are called Basilisks, and they are exceedingly rare and tend to isolate themselves from others and view themselves as superior compared to other vampires.
Appearance
A Basilisk looks just like their normal counterparts, except they can transform into a bat-human hybrid. When they transform, the body undergoes drastic changes, in addition to wings sprouting from the back and height vastly increasing, the skin will pale, and they will become more muscular with sharp talons appearing on their hands and feet. The eyes will change into a color of red, orange, black, yellow or all four and the face will narrow prominently with ears becoming pointed even if they are not naturally. Along with acquiring this new form, their Bat form becomes more monstrous and gets the option to become significantly larger... However this takes more energy than becoming a normal bat. Not each one looks the same.
Culture
Basilisks are an evolved form of your natural Vampire, when a person gets infected with Vampirism they go through their normal stages during their transformation. However, very rarely in a Vampire's creation this phase can take a drastic turn. Their transformation lasts for up to a month instead of a week. During this stage, after the first week of infection the individual is basically considered dead and lifeless, however this is not true. The individual gets put into a unique state resembling that of Catatonia or a Coma, mimicking that of death through this phase. These individuals are hanging over the edge of life and death, feeling everything happening to them but unable to do anything about it. In most cases these individuals often end up getting buried as for how dead they seem with after some time having to claw their ways out of the ground with an extreme bloodlust usually followed by a decrease in wildlife in the area. These people have also had an alarming amount of blood drained from them, usually resulting in the victims being left in the dirt outside of towns or on trails where they disappeared, but somehow managed to survive staying where they went missing on most occasions. In other instances, an individual who has been a vampire for a very long time has a chance to evolve also. This process is a lot more natural compared to those who are newly turned hurting for about one week without serious symptoms, than their change is complete. It should also be noted if a Basilisk bites somebody they are not entitled to become a Basilisk as well, except will become regular vampires with the same chances of having a unique mutation. It should be noted that this affliction is combinable with most others, however, not Lycanthropy or stuff that does not work with certain afflictions etc.
Strengths
Basilisks are very strong creatures of the night, having the ability to be more naturally acquitted with necrotic magic and mentalism being able to learn it more easily. They also share their counterparts' strengths, but do not get tired out for long, as they recover a bit quicker. Basilisks also heal more from blood, but they also need more of it or else they'll turn feral quicker Basilisks also have their senses enhanced several times over in their search for blood as a result of this. They also have enhanced morphing abilities, which are not to be short-sighted. The enhanced bat form and their new hybrid form make them some of the most dangerous creatures to encounter at night. As a result of their weaknesses towards heat, they have better resistance towards the colder temperatures. Basilisks also have the ability to levitate several feet off the ground followed by a mist appearing around them, however they can only at night or in the dark as the daylight dampers this ability. Strangely enough, as the day rests and the night rises, a Basilisk becomes stronger, faster, more durable, etc. when they come into contact with the nights sky, enhancing their existing abilities. Only for them to return back to normal in the day. There might even be some hidden abilities in their blood that only the most experienced can learn...
