Magic , is a large part of Cinderfell, a lot of the world relies on it to function through everyday life.. From Healers, to people carving paths for new streets and cities, to thieves trying to make ends meet by casting illusions or distracting their prey so that they can steal precious loot. Magic plays a part in all of it. Magic also plays a part in Some Magi-tech items; Which is the combination of Clockwork mechanics and Magic, mainly enchanted items.
To use Magic, You must have Two things; An Aura/s, and a Mana pool.
Aura
Auras are what can be described as a representation of oneself; Shown only by the one's soul. People can show their auras whilst casting; such as a blue hue around one's hands, or a glow of brilliant bright white light from someone's eyes.. This is the main source of everyone's magic, as they tend to have up to 1-3 auras that represent themselves and the magic that they possess. For Example, a Red Aura may be symbolism for an Elemental Magic such as Pyromancy or Terramancy.
The Colour and the way that an Aura is expressed through casting is very subjected to the person. Going back to the Example of a Red aura, for someone that may be an expression of Pyromancy, but for someone else, it is their expression of a different magic entirely, and may show up as a glow around their whole body rather than fists, eyes, etc. How you choose to express your characters' Magical auras is entirely up to you.
When it comes to casting magic, the Old lore only allowed for limited combinations of auras in one spell. However, now we’ve decided that when casting a spell, you can combine your auras together to cast two things at once in conjunction with one another. An example of this could be launching a ball of Terromancy, which upon impact, explodes with pyromancy from the middle of the ball.
Mana Pool
Mana is the energy that pulses through everyone's veins. To be able to tap into your aura and use the magical potential you have, you need Mana. The amount of Mana one has is subjective as well; If you are a trained battle mage, you may have more compared to someone who is a novice, vice versa. Some people are born without Mana however, and may not be able to cast despite holding an aura. Other Times, you may cast too much, or not have as much Mana in your system as someone else, and give yourself Mana burn.
Mana burn is something which occurs when a spellcaster suffers physical harm for exhausting themselves or overexerting themselves beyond what their mana reserves are capable of, thus causing a physical backlash.
Manaburn is usually in two variants; Minor and Severe.
Minor Mana-burn causes injuries across the body which typically are healable, and while painful, only inconveniences unless you build up multiple minor burns. They can come in forms of blackened burnt skin, vein-like marks, or even discoloured skin. Severe Mana burn can lead to permanent loss of limb or even senses such as sight or hearing, and often leads to a spellcaster being incapacitated. Usually fights do not reach this level of mana burn, but it is possible especially when casting multiple Tier 5 spells, but this is all heavily dependent on the caster and their capabilities.
