Background
Yelna were discovered originally by Prismatics- The Slime people of the ocean having been hunting in the waters for years- to discover some of their prey looked oddly Humanoid... They went on to announce this finding- Some cases already recorded by Elves and Humans in fishing trips about humanoid Fish-Like people emerging from the seas or being captured by fishermen… Which was later to be confirmed it was the species of Yelna.
Appearance
Yelna are Humans who Grow scales, and have some Sea-like traits visible. However, they are capable of switching their appearance willingly yet painfully into a Humanoid version of the Sea-creature they hold traits of, making them known as One of the races that hold the capability of switching between two forms. However Yelna can only be a realistic, underwater creature. Such as your average fish, sharks, dolphins, etc.
Culture
Yelna are usually quite socially distant, Only staying inside of water for the majority of their day. Otherwise, more social Yelna tend to be Beach-goers trying to stay near water so they can remain hydrated while trying to find company amongst the Humans and Yelna alike. However, Yelna all have one enemy alike with each other; the Prismatics. They fear for their lives on a daily basis due to sharing the seas with such violent creatures- adding to their socially distant attitude.
Weaknesses and strengths
Strengths of Yelna are their supernatural senses for starters- Being able to see, hear, and even breath clearly when fully in a body of water. Normally a Human would drown after a certain amount of time, but Yelna strive once in water. Their scales also help protect them from some piercing damage, or act as an extra layer of skin. Due to how unnatural their body structure is, they are immune to afflictions such as Lycanthropy.
Weaknesses of Yelna are quite simple. Being out of water for too long will cause dehydration, too many scales appearing is the first sign of suffocation- Which means they have to go back into the water. Other times that signs of suffocation can occur is When a Yelna is near too much heat or is affected by Fire; As this will greatly burn them and quicken their need for water. Yelna are also more vulnerable to common diseases and colds when in human form and upon land.
